Gas test drilling given green light by two South Wales councils
TWO South Wales councils have backed exploratory gas drilling bids.
Vale of Glamorgan and Rhondda Cynon Taf councils had been asked to consider borehole drilling at four separate sites by Coastal Oil and Gas.
Three of the locations are in the Vale, while the fourth is at Llantrisant.
Swansea Council has previously approved exploratory gas drilling at the RSPCA Llys Nini site, Penllergaer, and also in the Mawr ward to the north.
Opponents to onshore gas drilling fear the industry could damage the environment and scupper the UK's legal duty to reduce its carbon emissions.
