Garden experts share experience
FLEDGLING horticulturalists can dig in at the National Botanic Garden of Wales to learn how to grow their own.
The Llanarthne garden's experts will share their insider knowledge on raising organic veg, from preparing and looking after the soil, finding the right varieties for your plot, and dealing with pests.
Jane Richmond, head of learning and interpretation at the site, says the four-week course, starting on Saturday, January 12, is the ideal starting point for the curious.
"A lot of people are interested in organic gardening but don't know where to start. So this course will help to show that with a few of the basics in place anyone can do it — you don't even need a lot of space. You can grow organic vegetables in a few pots."

With many people keen to buy organic but being priced out of the market, Jane says growing your own makes good financial sense too.
"I have been growing organically for 16 years on allotments in Swansea and I wouldn't be able to afford the amount of goods I grow. It can be time consuming and you have to put the hours in, but you get back what you put into it."
The course will run on Saturdays between 10am and 1pm.
