A GAMBLER threw a trolley at a city casino roulette wheel in a temper — allegedly causing more than £6,000 worth of damage.

The trouble brewed at Aspers in Wind Street when Neil Philippart, of Burrows Road, Swansea lost a £100 gambling chip.

Prosecutor Helen Edwards told Swansea Magistrates Court that when the chip couldn't be found a member of staff tried to help Philippart in his search.

"It couldn't be found," she said.

"Mr Philippart became abusive and lifted up a trolley and threw it at the gaming table.

"It landed on the roulette wheel."

Mrs Edwards said Philippart was arrested and admitted the offence stating he was "very drunk".

Magistrates heard the incident, on January 31, was caught on CCTV and when the footage was shown to the 26-year-old he said that "he couldn't believe that he'd done it".

Philippart, who pleaded guilty on a basis to causing criminal damage, has seven previous convictions for 23 offences.

Leigh Davies, in mitigation, said his client admitted the incident in it's entirety but did not accept that the value of the damage caused was £6,068.29.

"The defendant has been given information that the roulette wheel is still being used at the casino," he said.

"We say that it didn't stop the casino from operating the table."

Sentencing was adjourned so that the prosecution could obtain more information about the value of the damage caused.

Philippart will next appear on Tuesday, March 23.
