CARMARTHENSHIRE village football club Pencader is tottering on the brink and expected to disband this week.

The club have already withdrawn their reserves from the third tier of the Costcutter Ceredigion League.

Many of the 35 or so registered players have departed and recently it has not been possible to put together a full team. The club are one off the bottom of the first division.

Pencader informed the league that they could not fulfil last Saturday's fixture against Crannog at Llangrannog and were disbanding.

League secretary Geraint Davies said: "We will wait to see exactly what is happening but it does not appear promising. If we lose Pencader it will be a sad day for the league."

A source at the club said the situation was unlikely to change and with very few players there was no point in continuing.

If, as expected, the club folds, all results involving Pencader will be null and void.

The club that would benefit most would be St Dogmaels, who have been defeated twice by Pencader.
