Linhope Spout nestled in the gorgeous Breamish Valley, is set in the Cheviot Hills in Northumberland National Park. A naturally rounded plunge pool with an incredible depth there’s a 1.8m ledge from which you can jump into the refreshing waters below. A great place for walkers also and families alike can cool off in the summer.

Brecon Beacons - Waterfall Woods

Located in south Powys, in the glorious Brecon Beacons you’ll find wooded gorges, caves and waterfalls sheltered by lush green trees with sunlight streaming through. It’s a pretty magical place to be at one with nature. The most famous waterfall, Sgwd Y Eira allows swimmers and walkers to pass behind the waterfall giving an amazing view of a curtain of water. You’ll find waterfalls that seemingly disappear in caves and more streams than you can shake a stick at – it’s worth spending the weekend here as it has so many coves to explore.

Staffordshire - Mermaid Pool

Situated on the North Staffordshire Moors if you’re looking for adventure and to explore myths then this is the place for you – rumour has it that the dark waters are bottomless; cattle refuse to drink from it and birds won’t fly over it. Why? Over the centuries it’s been subject to mystery – in 1679 a woman was so say murdered by being dumped in the pool by a serial killer. But don’t let that put you off! Then there’s also the rumoured tradition that a mermaid surrounds the pool at midnight to lure travellers to their depths... But don’t let that put you off! Mermaid pool is a gorgeous oasis of deep, fresh water with breathtaking views – you’ll have an aerial view of the moors surrounding you.

And ok, freshwater locations around the UK are going to be pretty darn cold this time of year, so you should definitely wear a wetsuit... or if you’re really that apprehensive, wait the hobby out until spring comes back around again!
