He spoke to a 21-year-old male pedestrian who was leaning against a roadside cabinet.

Shortly after, the pedestrian was crossing the road when he was involved in a collision with a black Skoda Octavia car travelling towards the city centre.

The injured man was taken to the University of Wales Hospital, Cardiff, where his condition is described as serious.

Sergeant Rowan Moore of the roads policing department said: "We urgently need to speak with the driver of the white Skoda taxi as he may be holding information which could be vital to our investigation.

"I am again reiterating our appeal for this taxi driver or anyone who can help us to identify him to come forward as soon as possible"
