Freezing temperatures and warning of snow leads to panic buying and injuries on ice
FREEZING temperatures and icy conditions are leading to a high number of patients at A&E departments in hospitals across Swansea.
Fears of arctic conditions have also led to scenes of panic buying in city supermarkets such as Sainsburys, where shoppers have been spotted filling up trollies with bread and milk.
A spokeswoman for Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board (ABM) confirmed hospitals in the city were experiencing high numbers of ambulances and patients attending emergency departments.
She said: "Many of the patients arriving by ambulance and self-presenting at the department had fallen on ice.

"We are currently experiencing icy conditions and the forecast is for this to continue and the possibility of snow.
"If you have to go out please take extra care and remember to wear warm clothes and appropriate non-slip shoes."
The Met Office has issued a red weather warning across parts of Wales and suggested there may be up to 30cm of snow in affected areas, including the Heads of the Valleys and Brecon Beacons.
Snow is expected to spread across most of Wales.
