PENNARD'S James Frazer has missed out on a place in the three-man Welsh side for the World Amateur Team Championships in Argentina next month.

The former Glamorgan champion has experienced a disappointing season, but played for Wales in last month's Home Internationals at Ashburnham and performed creditably.

Ludlow-based professional's son Oliver Farr, runaway winner of the Order of Merit and runner-up in the Welsh Amateur Championship, is included and joining him in Buenos Aires will be teenager Rhys Pugh and Rhys Enoch, currently at East Tennessee State University.

Pugh, not yet 17, captained Great Britain and Ireland last weekend in the Jacques Leglise Trophy match in Italy and earlier in the year won the McEvoy and Fairhaven Trophies.

Enoch, whose father hails from Swansea — the family now live in Truro — reached the quarter-finals of the Amateur Championship at Muirfield, but has not quite lived up to expectations this summer.

Unfortunate not to be in the team, Welsh champion Alastair Jones — who has clinched back-to-back youth titles — is named as non-travelling reserve.

Wales will be looking to improve on their 11th-place finish in Adelaide two years ago. Scotland are the defending champions.

Talented 16-year-old Amy Boulden was a certainty for the Espirito Santo women's team after her heroics in qualifying for the Ricoh British Women's Open and finishing runner-up in the British Open Strokeplay Championship.

Welsh champion Tara Davies and Gemma Bradbury also get the nod.

Captaining the men's side is Pontardawe product Carl Rowe, while Sue Turner takes charge of the women's team.

Welsh women golfers go in search of a piece of history next week when they attempt to win the Home International Championship for the third consecutive year.

After succeeding at Wrexham two years ago and Irvine last September, they are on home soil again at Whitchurch and in buoyant mood.

Since last year, the team has lost Rhian Wyn Thomas to the paid ranks, while Breanne Loucks and Sahra Hassan both played at Wrexham before turning professional.

Last year, Wales hammered England 7-2 and overcame Scotland on their way to the title.

Wales start off against Scotland on Wednesday, take on Ireland on Thursday and then conclude against England on Friday.

Favourites Glamorgan finished a disappointing fifth in the Welsh Boys' Inter-counties Championship at the Vale of Llangollen.

They could do no better than post an aggregate of 396, 12 strokes adrift of winners Flintshire.

Dyfed finished third, four strokes in front of Glamorgan, with their team of Zach Galliford, Haydn Mathias, Jake Griffiths and David Webb.

Carmarthen Knights pipped South Pembrokeshire 4.5-3.5 in a league game, and completed their programme with a 7-1 demolition of Glynhir to maintain a 100 per cent record and be joint leaders with South Pembrokeshire.
