Food banks becoming increasingly common
FOOD banks have already been set up to the east and west of the Swansea Valley to try to help an increasingly desperate section of our population.
The Neath food bank, based in the town's Orchard Place Baptist Church, has helped 1,600 different local people over the past year.
It led Neath MP Peter Hain to say: "Although it speaks volumes for the sorry state of Britain in 2012 that too many people cannot feed themselves, the caring spirit in the Neath food bank is movingly impressive."
Over in Llanelli, the Myrtle House food bank, which is part of the Trussell Trust, has been running since April 2011 and supports vulnerable people and families across the town.
