Residents across South West Wales are being urged to take extra care as high tides combined with strong winds could cause localised flooding along parts of the Welsh coast tomorrow and into Wednesday.

Environment Agency Wales has issued a flood alert for Swansea Bay and Gower and other flood alerts are likely to be issued around the Welsh coast for the highest tides on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Strong westerly winds will cause stormy sea conditions which, combined with some of the highest tides of the year, will result in high sea levels and spray overtopping.

The unsettled weather could also bring heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday which could lead to localised flooding from surface water and small streams.

An agency spokesman said they are monitoring the situation closely with the Met Office as there is a possibility that more serious flood warnings could also be issued.

The current forecast indicates low lying coastal roads, farmland, and isolated properties are vulnerable to flooding.

The agency is advising people to be careful if they are driving or walking in coastal locations over the next few days.

"People should be particularly careful on exposed areas where there is a risk of being swept away by waves or hit by debris thrown up by waves," an agency spokesman said.
