Fishing for prizes as shield competition gets under way

THE Malcolm Lloyd Memorial Shield takes place on Sunday.

The competition, held at Swansea Breakwater and sponsored by the Ship Inn and the SA1 Fishing Club, runs from 2pm to 6.30pm.

There is a first prize of £300, plus 50 per cent of the pool.

There is a second prize of £200, plus 30 per cent of the pool, with third taking home £100 plus 20 per cent of the pool. There are other cash prizes for the top 15, while there are vouchers for those taking spots 16 to 20.

Sign in at the Ship Inn from 10am on the day, meet at McDonald's for access at 1.30pm.

Raffle prizes include £100 cash, a day's free fishing at Papermill, a free fish bag and a meal for four at McDonald's.

This match is limited to 100 anglers and is a heaviest fish competition, one rod, two hooks. Last weigh-in is at 7.30pm at the Ship Inn.

It is limited to 100 anglers on a first come, first served basis. The entry fee is £12, plus £3 pool.

The back-up venue is Aberavon Beach.

Meanwhile, a charity competition will be held at Swansea Breakwater later this month in aid of the Friends of Neath Port Talbot Hospital Matthew Mizen Foundation.

It takes place on Sunday, July 22, from 7am to 11.30am.

It is sponsored by Cwmavon Sea Angling Club. Sign in from 5am at McDonald's.

The first prize is £250, plus 50 per cent of the pool, with second taking £150 plus 30 per cent.

The third angler wins £100, plus 20 per cent of the pool, with other cash prizes from fourth to tenth.

Entry is £12 with the pool £3. It has a limit of 100 anglers.
