Firms boost export hopes
FOOD and drink producers in Wales are preparing to cross the channel for one of the most important events in the world food calendar — Sial 2012.
A number of them will be exhibiting at the event in Paris as part of the Welsh Government's Wales the True Taste Pavilion.
Held at the Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition centre, Sial 2012 is said to provide an important opportunity for Welsh producers looking to reach and develop markets in Europe, which still account for more than 80 per cent of UK food and non-alcoholic drink exports.
The region is said to provide Welsh food and drink companies with an excellent trading base. France, in particular, has retained its position as the second largest export market for the UK sector. In 2011, exports of food and non-alcoholic drinks were over £1,466 million – a rise of 6.8 per cent on the previous year.

Alun Davies, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries said: "The Welsh Government is committed to strengthening the food and drinks sector in Wales, and I'm pleased so many Welsh companies are travelling to Paris for this important event.
"Sial is a tremendous opportunity to showcase to a global audience the fantastic food and drink from Wales, and I am sure visitors to the event will be impressed by the quality and diversity of Welsh produce."
