Firm fined after worker suffered fractured skull in fall
A WORKER suffered a fractured skull in a fall at a factory site.
He had been helping to dismantle a mezzanine floor at Ciro Cittorio in Fforestfach, Swansea, when he fell more than 9ft onto a concrete floor.
Stephen Dalling, aged 29, of Middleton Street, St Thomas, fractured his skull and suffered an injury to a lower back vertebrae.
He spent three weeks in a hospital intensive care unit and is still unfit for work four years after the accident, which happened in March 2005.
Raymond Heale, a director of R J Heale and Co, of Bridgend, appeared before Swansea magistrates to admit two offences under the Construction (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1996.
The company was fined £5,000, and ordered to pay £6,620 which was made up of court costs and victim surcharge.
