Ffos Las bosses pulling out all the stops
FFOS Las is pulling out all the stops to get its major meeting of the year to go ahead as planned tomorrow.
The entire Carmarthenshire racecourse is covered in protective fleeces to keep as much frost out of the turf as possible.
Tomorrow afternoon's racing is due to feature the Welsh Champion Hurdle and the inaugural West Wales National, both races sponsored by William Hill.
A weather front that will bring a thaw is forecast to arrive in West Wales from late this afternoon.
It could be the only jumping action in Britain tomorrow, with inspections planned at other courses as the cold snap continues to bite.
General manager and clerk of the course Tim Long said: "We're doing everything that we can.
"If the Met Office forecast for a weather front with rain later today is correct, then we have got a good chance."
Oscar Whisky, owned by Ffos Las chairman Dai Walters, is due to run in the Welsh Champion Hurdle, a race he won 12 months ago on his way to the Cheltenham Festival.
He faces strong opposition, including horses trained in Wales by David Evans, Rebecca Curtis, David Rees, Tim Vaughan and Evan Williams.
Final declarations are due to be made today.
