FFOS Las bosses have expressed delight at the quality of horses entered for what is set to be the best day in its three-year history.

Saturday's racing features not only the second running of the Welsh Champion Hurdle, but also the inaugural West Wales National, both races sponsored by William Hill.

As expected, there will be a strong Welsh contingent taking on the best Welsh-owned horse in training in the £40,000 feature race over hurdles.

Oscar Whisky is owned by Ffos Las chairman Dai Walters. He won the two-mile race last year and is on his way to the Cheltenham Festival again after the Welsh Champion Hurdle.

Welsh trainers David Evans, Rebecca Curtis, David Rees, Tim Vaughan and Evan Williams all have potential runners in the race — as does Welsh-born Gloucestershire-based handler Nigel Twiston-Davies.

The first running of the William Hill West Wales National has attracted 16 entries, including two former Welsh National winners in Dream Alliance and Miko De Beauchene as well as three-time Lincolnshire National hero Victory Gunner.

If Victory Gunner were to win on Saturday for Richard Lee, it be a notable double for the Herefordshire trainer after Le Beau Bai took the Welsh National at Chepstow just after Christmas.

Ffos Las general manager Tim Long said: "We're thrilled with these entries, especially the quality. The Welsh trainers are certainly not going to let my chairman have it all his own way with Oscar Whisky in the Welsh Champion Hurdle!.

"I'm also really pleased with some of the old favourites who are set to come out for the West Wales National. Our crowd would really welcome seeing Dream Alliance and Miko De Beauchene here."

Oscar Whisky is one of 14 entries in the big race. David Pipe has two entries in Arab League and Ashkazar, while Starluck could make a belated start for David Arbuthnot.
