Fears over effects of bank's closure
A POLITICIAN has this week expressed concern about the closure of the HSBC bank branch in Llandovery.
HSBC has confirmed that the last day for business at the branch will be December 14. Customer accounts will be transferred to Ammanford.
William Powell, local Liberal Democrat AM, said: "I am very sad that another small bank branch is closing. They provide a valuable service to the local community and to local small businesses. The only positive aspect of this announcement is that HSBC has confirmed that there will be no redundancies."
Mr Powell called for more positive ways to develop small towns, such as Llandovery. He said banks pulling out could have knock-on effects for town centres and called for the establishment of a credit union to secure financial services in the area.
