Father fractures leg in cliff fall
A DAD had to be dramatically rescued from the side of a cliff after taking a short cut back to the beach.
An RAF helicopter had to be scrambled to rescue the man from the rock face behind the ice rink on Mumbles Pier at 4.55pm on Sunday.
It is believed the 33-year-old, who has not been named, had been enjoying a day out at the beach with his family when he jumped over a wall in an attempt to take a short cut back from the toilet. He then slipped down the cliff.
Coastguard watch manager Steve Matthews said: "These are very tricky situations because it is not only the safety of the patient that needs to be taken into consideration, but the helicopter, the paramedics and any bystanders, in order to prevent another accident."
The rescue took around 80 minutes. The man was airlifted to Morriston Hospital at 6.15pm suffering from a compound fracture which was protruding from his leg. A spokesman for Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Trust said the man was progressing well.

“What an idiot. I hope this moron gets billed for the emergency services' help, including the helicopter - and that goes for all the other idiots who get into trouble on the beaches in summer. It would be a good deterrent for sure. Why should anyone have any sympathy for this fool?
I hope he's in a lot of pain - and I hope he gets a great big bill for wasting public money too.”
