Fast internet speed 'vital to prosperity'
IT maybe a relatively modern invention, but good broadband is now essential for Welsh prosperity, a new report has said.
The Commons Welsh Affairs Select Committee paper said good broadband connection was essential for businesses, the economy, and addressing social exclusion.
But part of Wales are lagging behind the rest of the UK.
The report calls for the UK and Welsh governments to work closely together to bridge that gap and eradicate broadband "slow spots" and "not spots" as a matter of urgency.

Chairman of the committee, MP David TC Davies said: "Access to fast internet connection is essential to businesses and the economy in Wales. Broadband will become an increasingly important generator of economic success and a means of addressing social exclusion.
"It is hard to believe, but in mid-2012 there are still some areas of Wales where people have no connection at all. It is impossible to see how businesses or the economy can develop in these areas."

“Wales is too far behind the times to be able to take advantage of fast broadband speeds. Coming back to visit Wales is like going back in time 20-30 years.”

“A faster speed would mean I can download my music and films more quickly, wont make the slightest difference to my web browsing though (maybe the buffering rate on youtube wont be as long).
Its a shame there aren't more "pipes" to choose from, just virgin media's cable (if you live in a big city)and BT's phone lines (which only give good speeds if you live within 2 miles or so from an exchange).”
