Family's change of fortune after car stolen before hospital dash
A DEJECTED dad whose car was stolen as he drove his partner to hospital has had his faith in mankind restored.
The theft of David Jeremiah's vehicle came after he had just been told he had been made redundant.
But now David has the use of a car, a new job starting this week — oh, and a baby son!
The 32-year-old said he had seen the worst and best of people in the space a few days.
"I would like to say a massive thank you to family and friends," he said. Mr Jeremiah, of Morriston, and his partner Michaela Williams had their orange Ford Focus ST stolen while en route to hospital, where Michaela was due to give birth.
At the time they were dropping off their son, Jayden, aged five, at Michaela's grandparents' house on Cwmrhydyceirw Road.
Time was of the essence as Michaela had gone into labour. The vehicle, registration number FG57 WTC, contained baby clothes, nappies, pram and baby seat.
The couple then had more bad news to occupy their thoughts when Mr Jeremiah learned he was to be laid off from his glass factory job. But the arrival in the early hours of last Thursday of little Ashton has coincided with a big swing in family fortunes.
Mr Jeremiah's older brother, Leon, agreed to lend him his red Ford Focus GT while buying another car for himself, while brother-in-law Joshua Jones paved the way for a sales assistant interview at Currys PC World at Fforestfach.
"They were really happy with me, and I will be starting on Thursday," said Mr Jeremiah.
The good tidings kept coming when the congregation at Morriston's Mission Church - moved by the couple's tale of woe - raised £100 to help them out. A couple of people in the area have also given them baby items such as knitted clothes.
A grateful Mr Jeremiah said he was still seething about the theft of the locked car, which has been reported to police. "It's just heartless — it's obvious there was babies' stuff in it," he said.
The couple met around six years ago in a Wind Street nightclub.
Mr Jeremiah recalled asking Michaela to dance twice after she refused first time.
"She said 'yes' (second time) — and we hit it off," he said.
And Jayden appears to be thriving in his elder brother role. "He wants to feed him and cuddle him," said Mr Jeremiah.
