Police said Mr Ahearne died in hospital on Monday after he was in collision with a black Fiat Scudo at 1.00am on Saturday, October 20.

The incident happened in Carmarthen Road, near the Waun Wen Road pedestrian crossing, detectives said.

South Wales Police are appealing for information on the movements of both the Fiat and Mr Ahearne before the collision.

"The taxi was travelling from the Cwmbwrla roundabout towards the Dyfatty area whilst it is believed that Christopher had been walking up from the town centre," a South Wales Police spokesman said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the roads policing unit on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
