Fake First Cymru buses Twitter account is suspended
A TWITTER account which appeared to be written by First Cymru buses has been suspended after being exposed as a fake.
The account, which was called @FirstCymruBuses, sent tweets such as one which appeared to mock the death of a 37-year-old man in a collision with a bus in The Kingsway.
Another tweet was directed at rugby player Ashley Beck.
Twitter has now suspended the account after a member of the public alerted First Cymru buses.
A First Cymru official said the company took fake accounts very seriously.
A spokeswoman for First Cymru said: “Fake twitter accounts are not new and we try and get them closed down as soon as we see them.
"It can be quite a challenge to get these accounts shut down and takes a number of days because of the rules.
“But this particular account is not unique and we continue to see fake accounts.
“We do respect parody accounts but ask people not to call the accounts First Cymru Buses as we do not want to confuse the customer.”
First Cymru’s official twitter is @FirstCymru and currently has 3,156 followers.
The spokeswoman said: “We take our twitter account very seriously and use it to inform our customers.
“But we cannot police everything and need people to help guide us to the fake accounts.
“We take these very seriously and hopefully this particular account has been suspended and sorted now.
“We monitor and take all our social media sites very seriously.”
