SWANSEA became the fashion capital of the world on Sunday.

Hundreds of style fans flocked to the Evening Post's glitzy Fashion Addict show.

Around 650 people strutted down the red carpet at the glittering event, with some even travelling from as far as Bermuda.

It took place in a massive marquee in the grounds of the National Waterfront Museum.

Agency Models 1 brought six models to star in the show, including Mecia Simson, last summer's winner of TV show Britain's Next Top Model.

Gavin and Stacey actress Melanie Walter, who plays Stacey's mum Gwen, also made an appearance.

The show featured the latest 2010 collections from stores such as Debenhams, Miss Selfridge, River Island, Zara and Slaters, as well as locally-owned favourites including Mollys Fashions, Splash from Mumbles, Vania Jesmond, Posh Frocks, Maxine de Paris, Prom Queen and Port Talbot's Lunacy boutique.

Mumbles salon owner Lara Johnson helped city-based Andrew Price create the hairstyles for the event.

"The show was fantastic and it is a great platform on which to highlight exactly what Swansea can offer," she said.

"We've only just come back from doing London Fashion Week and this was as good as anything we saw there. People seemed tentative initially about whether this would be a big spectacle but it has exceeded everyone's expectations. The energy and the buzz has been amazing.

"I would absolutely love to see more events like this in Swansea — it has been an honour to work with such an amazing team and it's going to raise the whole profile of the city."

The show was produced by Swansea hair salon owner Brian Brown and his team. His former mother-in-law Eleanor Simmons, who has not been to Swansea since the 1980s, travelled to Wales from Bermuda for the show.

"I've never been to an event like this before, it's great to see this sort of thing in Swansea," she said.

"Brian has done lots of shows before and they keep getting bigger and bigger."

There was designer jewellery by Joanna Keith-Lucas, using Swarovski crystal, pearl and sterling silver, creating a distinct high-fashion look. It was worn by Dunvant-based designer Helen Rhiannon's models showing a selection of her signature backless, bias-cut dresses, along with more structured corseted pieces for all occasions.

South West Wales Media managing director Blanche Sainsbury said the show had exceeded all expectations.

"We have had amazing feedback with retailers already asking to book for next year," she said.

"Our Sponsor Sancta Maria was thrilled with the event and wanted to publicly recognise this by thanking Evening Post staff Eleri Walters and Stephanie Draper. Thank you to Brian Brown and his team for producing the show. The teams from Lara Johnston, Andrew Price and Dior showcased fabulous hair and make up for all our models.

"A huge thank you to all the models who took part in the show and gave up their valuable time.

"It was a fabulous event."
