FILM bosses are giving Swansea residents the chance to appear in a big screen comedy which is being produced by Hollywood star Ben Stiller.

The team behind the film adaptation of Submarine are holding auditions for extras in the city this weekend. The movie, due to start filming within a month, is an adaptation of the book by Swansea-born writer Joe Dunthorne.

A-lister Ben is due to be an executive producer and his company Red Hour Films is backing the project.

Dead Man's Shoes star Paddy Considine is starring, while Mighty Boosh actor Richard Ayode is directing.

This weekend city talent scouts Mark Jermin Management will be on the look out for extras.

Auditions are being held at Pontlliw Village Hall on Saturday from 10am until 5pm.

Anyone aged between 25 and 75 is welcome to go along.

Filming is due to take place in and around Swansea, with a host of local talents including Belonging's Andrew Phillips. Yasmin Paige — star of the Sarah Jane Adventures — has also bagged a role in the flick.

Mark Jermin, who will be holding the auditions, said: "Anyone who's interested simply needs to come along and have a picture taken and it will then be shown to film bosses.

"If you are chosen, filming will be local and there are good rates of pay. It's a great opportunity for anyone who wants to see how films are made."

Submarine, a coming-of-age story, follows 15-year-old Oliver Tate who is obsessed with losing his virginity and with saving the failing marriage of his parents. The film is due to be released at cinemas next year.
