HUNDREDS of exceptional children in the care system across Swansea are going to be celebrated in a major awards ceremony.

There have been a phenomenal 305 different nominations for the Future Champions Awards, which are organised by Swansea Council's Child and Family Services.

Children's Participation and Children's Rights worker Tom Jones said the awards were being handed out in May but youngsters were already getting ready for them.

He said: "The children and young people who have been nominated are all really deserving and we want to make the awards ceremonies really special for them and their families.

"We are going to stage two separate events due to the high number of nominations and we are starting performance workshops next week as some of the young people will be taking part in the events on stage in between the awards."

The Taliesin evening takes place on May 8.
