Ex-boyfriend held woman down on bed and cut her hair off with kitchen scissors

A BONYMAEN man pushed his ex-girlfriend down onto a bed and cut off chunks of her hair with kitchen scissors during a row, a court has heard.

Despite screams from his victim, Craig Anthony King, 24, continued the bedroom attack, telling her "if I can't have you, no one will".

Swansea Magistrates' Court heard the victim suffered "physical and emotional" injuries in the attack because a year before she had lost her hair — and confidence — in a hairdressing accident, and her locks were only now beginning to grow back.

King, of Cefn Road, had previously pleaded guilty to common assault when he appeared for sentencing.

Laura Carthew, prosecuting, said King had been in an on-off relationship with victim Lisa Owen, and that the couple had a three-year-old son together.

A year before the assault Miss Owen had lost her long blonde hair following an accident at a hairdressers, an experience she found "extremely stressful and distressing".

However, over the months her hair — and confidence — had returned.

On November 1 last year, while the couple were discussing whether they should try to rekindle their relationship a row broke out over King contacting an ex-partner on Facebook.

Mrs Carthew said that later, when the couple were in bed, the row continued, with King shouting: "You think you are 'it' now because you have got your hair back — I will cut your hair off and then you will be nothing."

He left the bedroom then returned a short time later with scissors.

The prosecutor said: "He held her on the bed, grabbed her by the hair and cut it with a pair of scissors.

"The complainant was screaming for him to stop but he took no notice and continued grabbing and cutting hair."

When King left the room to attend to their crying child, Miss Owen fled the house and went to her mother's.

Andrew Evans, in mitigation, said his client accepted full responsibility for what he had done, and realised he had issues in his life — including anger management — that he was addressing.

He said: "This has been a wake-up call for him on how he should behave in the future."

He added that King treasured his relationship with his son, and urged magistrates not to imprison him.

Curfew

King was given a 10-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months, a 12- month supervision order, and a three-month 7pm to 7am curfew.

He was also ordered to pay Miss Owen £250 compensation, £100 costs and a £80 victim surcharge.

King was also told to complete 10 extra hours of unpaid work after admitted breaching a previous community order requiring work which had been imposed by magistrates in November last year.
