Allen's accolade came after a sparkling first season in the Premier League for Swansea that led to a £15 million move to Liverpool.

Qualification

He has continued to shine at Anfield and should start in midfield when Wales attempt to kick-start their World Cup qualification bid against Scotland in Cardiff on Friday.

Swansea defender Jazz Richards has been added to Chris Coleman's squad for that match at the Cardiff City Stadium and Tuesday's trip to Croatia.

Also called up are Bristol City defensive duo Lewin Nyatanga and James Wilson, along with Barnsley striker Craig Davies.

Davies is included after Craig Bellamy ruled himself out with a knee injury.

Joel Lynch and Dave Edwards have withdrawn from a squad already missing the likes of goalkeepers Wayne Hennessey and Boaz Myhill, left-back Neil Taylor, midfielder Jack Collison and centre-back James Collins. Matthews is also struggling with ankle trouble.

“Because no one would move to a different company who offer to double/triple/quadruple your money for doing the exact same job but elsewhere would they?”

“The stupidity of some people on here never cease to amaze me - HaroldMonk ! Not only did Joe move for a life changing contract , he moved to a club who boast 18 league titles and 5 european cups . ive been a swans supporter for 25 years and i wish young joe all the very best.

idiots who want him to fail need to have a serious word with themselves . Good luck Joe from all the proper , longstanding swans fans !”

“Joe went to Liverpool for money, BUT our club lead by Huw played a blinder and got £15 million for a player with only 1 season Prem experience.”

“I find comments such as those uttered by swaanseaSA2 incomprehensible. Joe Allen has given of his very best for the Swans, and has done so very successfully throughout all stages of his development from a boy to becoming a pivotal part of the success the Swans achieved in the top flight last season, and as such should prove to be an inspiration to all young players who would wish to emulate him in the future. I would suggest that his decision to move on was only made after much soul searching, but a footballer's career is by it's nature a short one, and one cannot blame him at all for deciding that perhaps it was in his best interest to avail himself of the opportunity to move to what is still undoubtedly a big club. I have no doubt that he will prove to be successful there as well. So I too would like to thank him for everything, and to wish him the very best of good fortune for his future career.”

I take it you want our mercenaries to fail as well then? That's everyone who played on the weekend bar Ben Davies for the record.”
