RICHIE Rees, the former Wales, Blues and Ospreys scrum-half, will join the Dragons from Edinburgh at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Gwent region, having only left the Blues for Edinburgh last summer.

After starting his career at Dunvant, Swansea-born Rees played a part in the Ospreys' 2004-05 Magners League triumph before joining London Irish in 2006.

The nine-cap Welsh international spent just one season with the English Premiership outfit and then returned to Wales with the Blues, for whom he made more than 100 appearances.

Having spent the current campaign with Pro12 strugglers Edinburgh, Rees will return for a third stint in Wales at the end of this term and he is looking forward to his new challenge in Newport.

"I'd like to thank the coaches, staff and fans of Edinburgh Rugby for their support this season," he said.

"I've made some great friends here and there's a lot of talent who have the potential to be top class, and I'd like to I wish them all the best in the years to come. 

"I remain totally committed to the club for the remainder of my contract and look forward to returning to Wales and joining up with my new club mates in a very ambitious Dragons side."
