A PROMO video for this year's Escape Into the Park event in Swansea has proved an internet hit.

Thousands of people have logged on to see the clip, and organisers hope it's world wide web success will help boost this year's music event.

June's 11-hour dance party in Singleton Park will feature big names including Eric Prydz, Judge Jules, Lisa Lashes and Utah Saints.

A spokesman for the event said: "Over the last nine years Escape into the Park has firmly established itself as the big day out for Welsh clubbers, and at the heart of its success is the fantastic location. Singleton Park provides a venue that is quite unlike any other dance festival in the UK.

"Given the appeal of Singleton Park, which many regulars tell us is almost as big an attraction as some of the big names that we bring to Swansea year in, year out, we felt that it was only natural that it should be the star of this new video, taking its rightful place at the top of the bill."

The two-and-a-half minute video features Matthew Pritchard, from the off-the-wall TV series Dirty Sanchez, as he hitches a lift to Swansea to join in the party fun.

Sadly a mix-up over the words "June" and "noon" means he finds dog walkers enjoying the park rather than clubbers enjoying the music.

Established in 2001, Escape has become one of the biggest dance music events in Wales, and regularly attracts crowds of 15,000 revellers.

However, the party often proves less popular with near-by residents who complain of the noise and disruption it brings.

Frances Jenkins, Swansea Council's strategic manager for tourism, marketing and events, said: "Tourism makes a significant contribution to the local economy each year and the Swansea events programme plays a major part in support of this.

"We have events taking place throughout the year in order to try and spread the benefits as much as possible. We are also in our tenth year of the Swansea Bay Summer Festival, which promotes a whole range of events and activities between May and September and caters for all ages and interests.

"Escape Into The Park is an event that's growing in popularity year on year and its inclusion in this Festival programme along with Singleton Park featuring on the advert will inevitably further raise the profile of both the event and Swansea as a visitor destination."

“I was in Sydney for New Year celebrations in 2008 and have never seen so much litter in my life as that left by the thousands of people attending the fireworks in Sydney Harbour. On the way back to our hotel in the early hours of the morning, I had to step over and around mountains of cans, plastic bottles, food wrappers and other assorted rubbish. It was strewn everywhere, on the pavements, across the road, in the fountains, floating in the Harbour, even in the trees.

The next morning we went back to the Harbour to have breakfast and I couldn't believe my eyes. Not a scrap of rubbish anywhere, the streets were spotless, the pavements clear, the fountains sparkling and nothing untoward hanging in the trees or bobbing in the Harbour.

A huge army of people had been employed right through the night to clean up and restore Sydney to her normal pristine beauty and what a fantastic job they had done.

My point is - litter happens everywhere there are large crowds - it's how the powers that be, deal with it, which matters.”

“I agree with Mark. The whinging is infinitely more annoying than any noise from the festival. In fact, it is quite sad that people these days are unwilling to endure a minor inconvenience for one day of the year so that others can have a good time. Personally, I hope that the festival will be a roaring success, enjoyed by everyone who attends.”

“Every year residents complain about the litter left afterwards etc.
the fact is the litter is just as bad at proms in the park.
The people that complain need to grow up, its 1 DAY a year. if they cant deal with one day then they shouldnt of moved so close to a big attraction in swansea.”

“Good work from Escape's PR people - getting a free advert from the Evening Post with a story about an advert. Someone deserves a bonus.”
