THE REIS Get Connected MSA Asphalt Rally Championship has announced provisional dates for 2013.

Entrants this year have indicated a preference for a calendar of eight events, with the five best scores counting.

But to spread choice, the 2013 Championship has nine qualifying rounds, retaining the best five scores to count.

Port Talbot Motor Club is again opening the championship with the Tour of Epynt on March 10, based at Llandovery, and running over the military ranges above Sennybridge.

The series then includes the Manx National and Jim Clark National in May, the ALMC Stages Dublin in July, Tyneside Stages over the Otterburn Ranges in early August, before returning to Epynt later that month for the Builth Wells-based Mewla Rally.

Next is the Wexford Stages in Southern Ireland, a return to Wales at the end of September when RAF Caerwent hosts the Patriot Stages, with the Otterburns Cheviot Keith Knox Stages rounding off the year in October.

The 2012 Championship has been the most successful for years in competitor numbers and greater freedom of choice on events should maintain interest.

The team at Fairfield Motorsport is organising a charity car tour to Flanders Fields in Belgium over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend in 2013. The event runs from May 3 to 6.

The tour will support the Royal British Legion, Save the Children, Cancer Research, Barnardos, Ty Hafan Hospice and the Dogs Trust.

An award is presented to the car crew who raise the most money at the closing gala dinner.

Carmarthen Motor Club provided a thrilling day's action on the Peter Lloyd Stages at Pembrey last weekend. The event sponsor claimed a determined win, with Ralio TV presenter Lowri Morgan making her debut as a co-driver, in Peter's Subaru Impreza WRCS14.

The pair were fastest by eight seconds on the first of the five stages and maintained the lead throughout, pursued by Bob Fowden and Jason Sugden in the Fowden Motor Factors Impreza. The Llanelli crew were outpaced by the power and agility of the WRC machine, ending the day almost two minutes adrift.

But they won their class and also took maximum points in the Welsh National Championship despite a clutch problem on the final stage.

Bryan Davies and Alun Lewis took third in the Mitsubishi Lancer E6, a further half-minute behind.
