PASSENGERS on board a Swansea train had their journey delayed after an engine failure.

The Heart of Wales service was stuck on the line at Waunarlwydd for around 40 minutes yesterday morning following engine problems with the vehicle.

A second train was then called to rescue the stricken locomotive.

Waunarlwydd resident Richard Grocott took the image above of the train from the window of his home office.

An Arriva Trains Wales spokesman said: "The delay to the Arriva Trains Wales service at Waunarlwydd lasting from 9.10am until approximately 9.50am was due to engine problems on a Heart of Wales service.

"In the picture, you can see an Arriva Trains Wales 150 going in to 'rescue' the 153 train which was experiencing the engine problems.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the delay."

Passengers affected by future disruption are advised to check Arriva's official website.

    “There was no "stricken locomotive"!

It was a Diesel Multiple Unit which failed!”
