ENERGY and environment sector firms could get a boost from a new Welsh Government fund.

Small and medium-sized businesses can apply for up to £50,000 of funding from a pot of £330,000.

Welsh Government chiefs believe the money could create and safeguard 100 jobs over the next year, and hopefully generate further investment.

It will be used to support the research, development and commercialisation of new products and services.

Neath AM Gwenda Thomas said: "This funding will help to create new jobs, and stimulate the growth of a low-carbon economy.

"This will be beneficial to Wales's long-term prosperity, and will support Welsh businesses to enable them to compete for energy contracts, maximising the number of jobs and economic benefits."

Businesses applying for grants will need to provide a minimum of 50 per cent match funding.

Eligible projects could include market research and certain areas of legal advice.
