Electric blankets test call
TRADING standards in Swansea is urging residents to get their electric blankets tested to ensure they are safe to use.
The call follows a recent blanket testing exercise in Swansea where 80 per cent of the blankets failed specific safety tests.
Swansea Council and Mid and West Wales Fire Service have now organised further events to give residents the chance to get their blankets checked out.
June Burtonshaw, the council's cabinet member for place, said: "If tests show the blanket is a risk owners can either purchase a new one or the fire service will provide one free if the person agrees to a fire risk safety check of their home."
Age Concern will also attend the testing events. They take place on Friday at the Canolfan Centre on Millers Drive, Gorseinon, between 9.30am and 12.30pm, and November 13, between the same times, at Morriston Fire Station.
