Elderly's free salt gift for gritting
PENSIONERS in Whitland have received free salt for their steps thanks to a local businessman.
Dereck Rees, who is also a town councillor, set aside around 30 20kg bags of road salt and 18 smaller packs ideal for gritting steps, courtesy of EHT Narberth.

The salt was presented to Whitland Town Council to distribute to the town.
John "Ivydene" Davies, 79, of Pen yr Ardd, Jacobs Lane, was one of the first to receive a free pack of step-safe salt.

"It's a nice little pack which is suitable for an old aged pensioner," said Mr Davies.
"It's very nice to have had something like this for free. Every little helps when you're a pensioner."
The salt for pensioners' front doorsteps can be collected from Gus's newsagents or town councillors. Bigger sacks of salt are available from the metal cage opposite Farmers Court.
