Elation for teen who missed Leigh Halfpenny knocking on his door
IT’S not every day you get a genuine sporting legend turning up at your door.
So rugby-mad Elliott Briskham was kicking himself — and blaming his mother — when he missed out on meeting Wales and British Lions star Leigh Halfpenny, who came visiting the family home in Llangyfelach to deliver tickets for Wales’s autumn international matches, as part of a WRU initiative. To add insult to injury, mum Shirley accidentally burned some photos left by the Cardiff Blues full back, which he left with a note saying he had stopped by, when she attempted to laminate them.
But frustration turned to elation 12-year-old Elliott, who plays his rugby for Pontarddulais RFC, after his family contacted the WRU to explain the predicament. The family, including dad Keith and sister Molly, were invited to attend the Wales training session at the Millennnium Stadium — when Elliott got to meet his hero next to the hallowed turf.
A WRU spokesman said: “When we heard from the family about the ticket drop we were delighted to accommodate them to watch the training session, and we hope meeting Leigh made up for his disappointment”.
