Duke and Duchess of Cambridge thank council for real nappy pack
Carmarthenshire Council has been thanked by Prince William and Kate for the real nappy trial pack sent to them after the birth of Prince George.
The council’s waste and recycling team put together the special pack to raise awareness of the benefits of real nappies.
They received a letter from the couple's private secretary which read: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have asked me to write and thank you so much for the real nappy covers and liners, which you so kindly sent on the occasion of the birth of their son, Prince George.
“Their Royal Highnesses have been overwhelmed by all the wonderful messages and gifts they have received and the Royal couple, their parents and families are so thrilled at this special time.
“The Duke and Duchess would have me send you their warmest thanks and best wishes.”
Figures show that an estimated 200 million disposables are thrown away in Wales each year.
Councillor Colin Evans, executive board member for technical services, said an increasing number of parents are discovering the benefits of real nappies.
"We are trying to encourage more parents to give them a go instead of using disposables which end up in landfill and is bad for the environment,” he added.
