'Drugs are making our lives a misery'.
RESIDENTS at the Cwrt Y Berllan flats in Carmarthen say their lives have been made a misery due to drug-fuelled behaviour related to drugs in the area.
Used needles on paths outside the flats, together with late night disturbances from some flats and police being called regularly are ruining the peace for others living there.
The flats, next to John Street car park off Orchard Street, are owned by Bro Myrddin Housing Association, who alongside police are helping residents to curb problems.
One concerned resident, who asked not to be named and claimed to be speaking on behalf of many others, said: "It has been awful for some here, especially for the older people.
"Things have been bad but now we are working with police and hopefully things will improve.
"A couple of months ago we found needles still attached to syringes outside the doors, which any child could pick up and hurt themselves on. We have had problems with drugs here, with people coming and going in the early hours as late as 3am.
"Flashing lights from ambulances and police are always being seen outside, but we are working well with police and they are on top of things.
"Late at night troublemakers are often chased by police outside the flats because it is seen as a short cut through to St Catherine Street."
However, police in the town are being praised for working closely with residents.
The residents' spokesperson or residents said: "There are still late night disturbances but we know the police are aware of the problems and we help them as much as possible."
Despite the support from residents over the work being done at Cwrt Y Berllan, Dyfed-Powys Police had not commented by the time of going to press on what policing measures were being taken when asked for an update on the antisocial behaviour.
In a separate incident, at 3.40pm on Sunday officers were called to John Street car park, where information had been received that three males were in a parked vehicle and in possession of a knife. All were arrested by police officers for possession of an offensive weapon and drug offences. They are on bail pending inquiries.
