Drivers face more delays in Swansea's Oystermouth Road
DRIVERS are once again facing delays on one of Swansea’s busiest arterial roads.
A gas leak in Oystermouth Road, the main route from Mumbles into the city, has meant delays for rush-hour traffic, as company Wales and West Utilities carries out repair work.

It is just the latest in a series of road works undertaken on the stretch of road, one of the most frequently dug up in the city.
A Wales and West spokesman said: “We received reports of a smell of gas in Oystermouth Road in December and sent an engineer to investigate. We found a leak on the main and worked to isolate the leak and make the area safe.

“We liaised with the local authority, which requested that we begin the non-urgent repair in January, so as not to inconvenience local residents and businesses during the busy Christmas period.
“Our team is currently on site to repair the leak, which is hoped to be completed by Monday , weather permitting. No gas supplies will be affected while this work is carried out.
“To ensure the safety of our workforce and members of the public, it has been necessary to close one lane of Oystermouth Road whilst the work takes place.”
Drivers were delayed on the stretch of road last January, when water maintenance caused lane closures and delays of up to 30 minutes. The following month, another lane of the road was closed when Wales & West Utilities carried out emergency maintenance.
And they will face further delays from the spring when work begins on phase one of Swansea Council’s boulevard project for the road, aimed at improving links between the city centre and the waterfront.
A Swansea Council spokesman said: “The first phase of works will stretch from the LC to The Strand. Traffic light technology along the route will also be improved.”

“Why are we reporting this? Things like this happen and utility companies need to get in and fix the problem.

“I understand quite a few roads as closed in Swansea today. Apparently there are some soldiers marching up and down all over the place. I was going over to Swansea today, i think i'll give it a miss”
