THE driver of a car has died following a collision with a minibus on Monday night.

The driver was one of two people taken to hospital with "serious multiple injuries" after the smash on the A477 between Llanddowror and Red Roses at 6.40pm.

Dyfed-Powys Police are appealing for witnesses.

A spokeswoman for the force said two vehicles were involved in the incident.

Tragically

She said: "It involved a minibus and car.

"The driver of the car was taken to Glangwili Hospital where tragically he later died.

"More information will be released when available and appropriate."

One Llanddowror resident described seeing "seven or eight police cars, fire engines and ambulances" racing through the village towards Red Roses.

The road was closed in both directions from St Clears roundabout to Red Roses for eight hours while police investigated the smash.

Diversions were put in place.

A Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were called to a collision involving a minibus and a car. The road was closed and we made the vehicles safe."

The spokesman added that the crews from Narberth and Tenby were at the scene.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 6.48pm to the road traffic collision on Monday near Llanddowror.

"Two patients were taken to Glangwili General Hospital with serious multiple injuries."

The condition of the second person taken to hospital is not known.

Any witnesses are urged to call Dyfed-Powys Police on the non-emergency number 101.
