Dramatic rally for the top seeds
LAST weekend's Welsh Dragon Tyres Rali Cwm Gwendraeth proved dramatic for Llanelli crew Bob Fowden and Jason Sugden.
The top seeds stopped with a puncture to their Subaru, and were then eliminated after an off-course incident took a wing off the Impreza.
The opening round of the Steve Harkness Competition Tyres Welsh National Tarmacadam Championship 2013 was won by Bryan Davies and Alun Lewis in the Mitsubishi Evo VI.
They stamped their authority with a daring first stage in torrential rain, surviving a dramatic spin and going on to set consistently rapid times, adding up to a near one-minute win.

Llanelli's Seyyan John took an early lead over the weekend in the MDMC Steve Jones Maintenance Series for female co-drivers, co-driving to class fourth in a Ford Escort on the Wyedean Stages, and at the wheel of her Subaru at Pembrey, where another fourth firmed up her lead.
In the Forest of Dean event, slippery conditions saw 66 cars slide off track and into retirement.
Connor McCloskey won in his Subaru Impreza WRC, and added the lead in the Pirelli MSA Welsh Rally Championship.
Port Talbot crew Thomas TC Lloyd and Craig Maggs netted the best result among Maesteg MC series contenders on the Wyedean in their Peugeot 205.
They mastered rough and muddy conditions to come home an impressive second in their class.
Welshman Geoff Jones, one of Britain's quickest rally drivers in his heyday, will return to competition in the opening round of the WWRS RAC Championship when he drives a Vauxhall Chevette in the Rally Marketing Mid Wales Stages on March 3.
In 1985, he won the Newtown Stages in his own Chevette, and 28 years on will take on a strong pack of Ford Escort Mk2s in the HSR.
He said: "The chance to get back in a Chevette is a dream come true. This rally is one of my old favourites, and I hope to be competitive against the Escorts."
Jason Pritchard competes in a Mk2 Escort, built by the Viking Motorsport company of former WRC co-driver Phil Mills.
Pritchard said: "After a year away from rallying, to start the series by competing against five-time British Rally champion Jimmy McRae is special."
Discussions over a new date for the snow-hit Red Kite Stages organised by Amman & District MC are progressing.
