A SWANSEA woman who was born in the same year that the Titanic sank — on its maiden voyage — has had a far happier journey through life as she notches up a special birthday.

Suzie Doreen Singer, of Maxime Court, Gower Road, Sketty, has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Born in London in 1912, Doreen was the third child of a family of six children. Her father was a printer with a big firm in London but he died of meningitis in his early 40s. When her mother died in 1934, Doreen was left to look after her younger sister, who was still a schoolgirl.

When war broke out Doreen joined the Wrens and was a cook in Chatham Barracks.
