Don't worry, says Trundle, the goals will come
LEE Trundle reveal- ed his agony at missing out on a late winner against Sheffield Wednesday but is confident the Championship's lowest scorers have the firepower to seal a play-off spot.
Swansea City failed to score at home for the eighth time this season as they were frustrated by a well-organised Wednesday outfit. But Paulo Sousa's side did have their chances, with Darren Pratley, Ashley Williams and Trundle missing opportunities to break the deadlock.
Swansea, the lowest scorers in the Championship with 31 goals, remain in fourth place, but Trundle was left to rue his missed opportunity.
"We've had a couple of good chances — Ash had his header and Prats too — but I was very disappointed with mine in the box because I should be scoring them," he said.
"I've taken it on to my left foot in the box and as I've hit it I've scuffed it — I've not caught it properly at all — and it's gone wide.
"I was gutted because that is a chance I normally thrive on.
"It hurts even more because you know there aren't many chances coming in the game."
On the positive side of a frustrating afternoon, Swansea did keep their 21st clean sheet of the campaign — they remain the most miserly team in the league, having conceded just 23 goals in 36 games.
Impressively, Sousa's side have let in only nine goals in 18 home games, a major part in their success this season.
And Trundle reckons Sousa's strikers will provide enough firepower to remain in the play-off places.
For tomorrow's home clash with West Brom, Swansea have Gorka Pintado back from suspension, while the likes of Shefki Kuqi, Craig Beattie and Trundle are all pushing for a place in the starting XI.
"It's great for the manager to have so many options up front," said Trundle.
"And the opposition won't know if we are going to go 4-5-1 or 4-4-2 these days because we have played the latter formation recently.
"Shefki has done really well since he arrived and he's proved to be a right handful for defences. But the rest of the strikers offer something different to each other, so the gaffer knows he has options to play with.
"The defence has been top quality this season and they deserve a lot of credit for the team's success, but I'm confident when we go forward that we will score goals.
"We have the quality in this squad to keep the club in the play-offs."

“why is lee trundle left on the bench so often when it is so obvious we need his talent and eye for goal on the pitch i have watched trunds in the warm ups with the other strikers in all the home games and hits the target much more often than his fellow strikers or midfielders on offer paulo give the boy a chance that is why you kept him here surely we seem to be shotshy at the moment he has got the potential to unlock defences we cannot expect to keep walking the ball in. so lets be brave and i think the goals will come”

“The Golden Boy, Swansea - you are spot on. Swans have a very fickle fan base. Unless they're winning every game 5-0 and top of the league, people will always be complaining. Even if they get propmoted you will get loads of people sayig they aren't good enough for the Premiership.
I'm afraid this is symptomatic of the people of Swansea in many walks of life. Whenever a new shop or restaurant or other business opens it is never good enough.
Most peoplein Swansea have no appreciation of anything. That is why it is rightly called The Graveyard Of Ambition.
I don't know why, but that's just what the place is like. I moved away years ago, and from the outside it looks even worse.
Swansea and surrounding areas could be so much better. I most other parts of the UK, and indeed the world, people take pride in their towns and talk up the good points.
In Swansea, it's just moan, moan, moan. I feel so sorry for the few good people who have to put up with the negative minority.”

“I think it will be us Swans supporters who will have the decisive say in whether we get promotion. The best supporters back their teams to the hilt, through thick and thin, and become the 12th man - best examples, Anfield and Celtic Park on European nights.
Often when things haven't been going quite right this season the Liberty Stadium has been as hostile as an away ground for the Swans players and the atmosphere even when we're winning is flat a lot of the time. The lack of goals is frustrating but is pretty much the only negative this year. We're creating chances, are great to watch, very good defensively, difficult to beat and 4TH IN THE LEAGUE!
Off the field we've got a sensilble board of directors who've made some very astute manager appointments, we're financially sound and the youth set up and infastructure are progressing well. Congratulations to Paulo Sousa and everyone at the club on a great season so far and good luck for the rest of the season. COME ON JACKS LET'S ROAR THE SWANS TO THE PREMIER LEAGUE !”

“Come on folks the Swans are doing OK.
Give them a chance and lets see what they do by the time the season ends.
With a bit of luck they could be in the Premiership league.
Good luck to them I say and to the moaners GET A LIFE”

“Still in contention, lets get behind the Swans and who knows they may just make it. 1 nil or 4 nil its better than a loss. Other teams have won by 3 or 4 goals and are below the Swans. Good luck Swans”
