'Don't tug on your girdle' - women told in 1938 dating tips book
EXCERPTS from a 1938 book on dating advice have appeared online.
The book includes such tips as: “Careless women never appeal to gentlemen.”
Tips For Single Women, posted on Retronaut, has tips that might still apply today, and some that almost certainly do not.
Decide for yourself:
“Don’t talk while dancing."
“If you need a brassiere, wear one.”
“Don’t be sentimental.”
“Men don’t like girls who borrow their handkerchief and smudge them with lipstick.”
“Don’t be familiar with your escort.”
“Please and flatter your date by talking about the things he wants to talk about.”
“Don’t be conspicuous talking to other men.”
“Don’t drink too much as a man expects you to keep your dignity all evening. Drinking may make some girls seem clever, but most get silly.
“Do your dressing in your boudoir to keep your allure.”
