A SWANSEA doctor says people shouldn't consider depression a "weakness" but see it as a "treatable condition."

Dr Liz Clarke-Smith, consultant old age psychiatrist, has been speaking out about the condition following World Mental Health Day.

She said there were a range of different therapies to help people to battle depression and help people get on the road to recovery.

Dr Clarke-Smith said: "It is important to remember that depression is not a weakness but is a treatable condition, and that the majority of people will respond to interventions such as talking therapies, antidepressant medication and practical social supports."
