Doctor in booze calls
A LEADING doctor has urged the Government to clamp down on companies that carry out home deliveries to drunk people who have run out of alcohol at a party.
Baroness Finlay, of Llandaff, a former president of the Royal Society of Medicine, called for licensing of the firms.
At question time in the House of Lords, she also called for breathalysers to be used in a "compulsory way" by police.

“Peter53
I'm only pointing out that there is an existing law that covers the sale of alcohol to someone who is intoxicated.”

“A trivial matter? I think not. Councils are unable to do anything without complicating it.”

“I believe most people arrange for cabs to deliver booze when they run out. It would be a trivial matter for the local councils who licence the cabs to ban them from collecting booze without the final purchaser being present. If the buyer is pie-eyed, the off-licence could refuse to sell them the booze and the cabby might not want to carry them anyway.”

“Huwwuh - do you expect the van driver to have to check if everyone in the house is intoxicated - and to what level? Should he be expected to breathalyse everyone in the property?
Do try and think a little before hitting the keyboard”

“It's against the law to serve someone who is intoxicated with more alcohol.”

“And exactly how does Baroness Finlay propose such a prohibition scheme would work? I suggest she has given no thought at all as to the practicality if her rather stupid suggestion and is only seeking some publicity. Should someone as apparently stupid as her be sitting in the House of lords?”
