BILLIE Piper was back on the Doctor Who set yesterday, filming scenes for the new series.

The actress was at Neath Abbey to reprise her role as Rose Tyler in the hit sci-fi show.

Filming took place at the venue with 11th Doctor, Matt Smith on set.

Billie was spotted in a floral dress during the morning session between 8am and noon, but did not return later in the day.

The 26-year-old first appeared in Doctor Who when it was revived by Swansea writer Russell T Davies in 2005.

She was a big hit with fans and has returned a number of times since initially being replaced by Freema Agyeman in 2006.

David Tennant's successor Matt was on set in costume for the filming for the fifth series, which will hit screens next year.

And he signed autographs for fans who had flocked to the site to catch a glimpse of the show's stars. But he refused to pose for photos while in costume.

Karen Gillan, who is set to appear as the Doctor's new assistant, was also on set, dressed in a blue dressing gown and slippers.

Swansea Bay Radio presenter Jay Curtis, who was on the set, told the Post: "Matt was in the iconic Doctor costume in a tweed jacket and bow tie and he was there almost all day.

"Whenever he wasn't filming he always had a script under his arm and he was looking through it constantly. He really seemed to be having trouble remembering his lines — he got quite agitated at times.

"All the filming seemed to be going on in one room of the abbey and there were loads of futuristic props around.

"Karen was dressed as though she'd been asleep, so it looks as though she gets transported from her bed for the scene."

Actor Terrence Hardiman, best known for playing the lead role in children's show The Evil Headmaster, was also on set.

Jay added: "It looks like Terrence is playing the villain of the episode.

"He was dressed in a black monk's outfit, in keeping with the abbey surroundings."

Real SFX, a 3D effects company, was part of the crew and they had screens in the abbey.

The venue has been used by TV crews in the past to film episodes of BBC1 fantasy drama Merlin.

“Now the penny drops!! Billie Piper is a manufactured celebrity who failed badly as a singer and is yet again being brought to our screens . I would gladly go watch the Horns of Nimon but my freeview box with this digital changeover just keeps showing me Davros TV!!!”

“Harold, rather than wingeing about how much better Doctor Who used to be and how terrible it is now, why not go watch Horns of Nimon and leave us be.
The modern series is not perfect, but neither was the classic series. Both, however, are still amazing and I love them to death.

Now for the real question: why on Earth do they insist on bringing Rose back every series? They gave her such a powerful send-off in Doomsday, which they have washed away to nothing with her seemingly constant returns.
She's as bad as the Daleks!”

“I enjoy hearing about Doctor Who filming, whether it is in Wales, Scotland, or London. It is entertainment news, which is suppose to be light and fluffy. If you want 'straight' news, I suggest you go to another section of this website.

And from what I know about Wales, a little bit if brightness does not go astray!”

“Is this news? If i had a pound for every time i heard about Doctor Who being filmed in Wales i could save our economy!!! Are we so devoid of anything worthy happening in our part of the worls that we have to lavish score after score of headlines to vastly overpaid and over rated actors?? Dr Who ran its course back in the late 1980's. Bringing it back was perhaps at first a good idea but now its being milked and flogged to death. Russell left and now it seems there's a queue forming for people to write an episode. Thats not true continuity. Methinks Gordon Brown might put pen to paper come May!!!!”

“What is it with the Welsh media and Doctor Who??? Is there a commission involved for every time the local papers write about yet another filming in Wales??? Is this news? In these economic times i couldnt care less about these "dandy" actors with their astronomical wages for what is really over the top sentimental acting for a series that is just a "love in" for the so called famous (i use that phrase with bile in my mouth) to pay homage to a series that was off our screens for over a decade. Ecclestone is a great actor but the introduction of Barrowman has ruined it and its full of inappropriate sexual leanings which is very difficult to explain to kids at tea time on a Saturday. The money these 2nd rate actors get paid is obscene and the irony of them filming in deprived areas isnt lost on me and others. Do we have such an inferiority complex in Wales that we always have to bang on about the filming of shows? If it wasnt filmed here it would be somewhere else or even computer generated. I enjoy the honesty of the shaky sets of the 60's and 70's which was overcome by superb acting. David Tennant and Billie Piper arent fit to lace the shoes of Hartnell, Troughton, Baker and Co. Now if you'll excuse me where did i park my TARDIS??!”
