GARETH Delve has been called into the Wales squad preparing for the RBS 6 Nations clash with Ireland at Croke Park.

The Gloucester captain and No. 8 boosts a forward contingent which has lost through injury Ospreys lock Alun Wyn Jones and, through suspension, Blues back row Andy Powell.

But the four-times capped Delve, who returns to the international scene for the first time since 2008, will also provide cover for Wales captain Ryan Jones whose calf problems have been well documented during the current campaign.

"We are expecting Ryan to be fine," said Wales assistant coach Neil Jenkins.

"But we have called on Gareth to boost the squad numbers in the forwards and provide cover in that back row area."

“about time too! i have watched him play the last few weeks and hes played out of his skin! why was he allowed to slip under the radar? get in there delve and prove to the welsh management what you have been doing consistantly this season! i will watch this one eagerly! wales are going to be pretty switched on and play with ball in hand or stuffed up the jumper to win this one!”

“About time he should have been selected initially. I can't believe we would contemplate playing Warburton out of position against Ireland. He's a great prospect, but not ready for what the Irish back row will throw at him.”
