SCAFFOLDERS are poised to return to the city's marina tower after the developer and contractor signed a new contract at the weekend.

Developer Ferrara Quay has fended off compensation inquiries from some frustrated buyers, after the recent two-and-a-half-month delay — which left Wales's tallest residential scheme boarded up in some areas and exposed to the elements in others.

Chris Hope, property director at Dawsons, the selling agent for the beachfront site, the showpiece building of the Meridian Quay residential development admitted the two-and-a-half-month delay, the result of a payment dispute between contractor Carillion and Ferrara Quay had been "very disappointing and frustrating".

But he said that once scaffolding was in place, the first 17 floors should be completed by the end of August or the first week in September, said Mr Hope.

However, he said residents should be able to move in before that time, bit by bit.

"The sun is out, and Meridian Quay is back on track," said Mr Hope. "There is massive support for the scheme from buyers, and it will become Wales's pride and joy."

“Steve Jones - Uplands --- WHAT AN IDIOT!! You really have no idea.

All people with money live in the Westside of Swansea?!?!?!

So if you live in Uplands, which I'm assuming you class as Westside even though it's near enough City Centre - Why haven't you got a flat at The Tower??

Thought all people with Money live in the Westside of Swansea!!”

“Dicky Chinn, Slydak on Tawy, Swansea may be a £ store place but there is plenty of money in Swansea as a whole, so the restaurant will do well. The people with money who live in Swansea live on the west side of town and generally don't frquent the city centre. The city centre is mostly for the poor people of the east side of town. The people with money shop in Cardiff and out of town stores. There is nothing for the to buy in the city centre stores.

If I had the money, I would definitely buy one of these apartments. The views a re fantastic. Regarding the question someone asked about compensation for delays, I doubt this is avaialble. Delays often happen with new builds and this would be covered in the contract they signed. It probably had a finish date they were aiming for but said that delays may happen. That's life and if you want to move in by a specific date then it's up to you to negotiate for it to be included in the contract. I doubt it would be though. If you need an exact date the you should be buying ready built property. If you're buying off-plan, then you should know the risks associated with it. Builders can go bust and in some circumstances you can lose your money.”

“I would very much like to hear a prospective flat owners view of the situation.
How has the delay affected you. Has it cost you any money. Did you approach the developers for any compensation, were they forthcoming. Are you able to back out of the deal because of the delay. Did you buy to let, as apparently some purchasers have, and finally, do you think the wait was worth it ?”
