Day trippers from Swansea scoop Lottery win on Yorkshire visit
A COACH load of day-trippers from Swansea won't forget their visit to Yorkshire for a while after pocketing a lottery win.
Abertawe Travel, in Port Tennant, has a loyal base that regularly signs up for trips around the country.
To add to the fun the passengers usually buy lottery tickets as a syndicate for the day and share any winnings - which have been few and far between over the years.
However the town of Otley, near Leeds in Yorkshire, proved to be the exception last weekend as they netted £20,025 - £25 for having three numbers and then £20,000 on the raffle.
Each of the 42 pensioner will pocket £476 each.
Kerry Squires, a director at the firm, said: "We are a family run business that does coach tours and day trips, we have a lot of regular customers so its like one big happy family; every one has made friends and are often on the same weekend trips.
"Whenever we're away we always do the lottery between whoever wants to do it on that day and we have had a few small wins in the past."
The happy-go-lucky trippers, who are all past their pension aged, received a change of luck with a trip up north.
Mrs Squires explained: "While away last weekend on a Yorkshire dale tour, we were in a small village called Otley in Yorkshire where the lottery tickets were bought; I wasn't going to ask if any one wanted do the lottery as it had gone up in price to £2 per line, in total we bought 42 lucky dips.
"After checking the numbers we thought we had won just £25 for having 3 numbers on a line. So we checked the tickets in a lottery shop and heard a winning sound... and then another.
"It wasn't until the lady in the shop pulled me to one side and said that I could not claim the prize with her, and that I had to go to a lottery post office that I realised we had won £20,000 on the new raffle.
"Everyone was ecstatic.
"It's not a life changing but it's a lovely win especially coming in the build up to Christmas."
