Davies is best full-back in Wales, says Johnson
SCOTT Johnson hailed Wales outcast Barry Davies as the form full-back in the country after he helped win the Ospreys a share of the spoils against Glasgow last night.
Warren Gatland is poised to use either James Hook or Leigh Halfpenny at No. 15 against New Zealand a week today after picking a squad without a specialist full-back.
But Davies showed against Glasgow that the New Zealander did have options when he named his panel for the autumn series.
Johnson said: ''There are arguments that Barry is probably the form 15.
''But that's for others to decide.
''I don't know how the rest of the Welsh contingent are playing at 15. I know they have a problem there.
''Barry has been a great acquisition for us. Not only has he been producing on the field, but when he hasn't been picked he's done terrifically as well.
''Wales may want to play a slightly different game and be looking for something different. Until you know what's in their head, it's up to them.''
On his team's performance in the 9-9 home draw with Glasgow, Johnson said: ''The effort was fantastic, the execution dreadful. Considering how much we had to mix and match our side, I'm not sure whether I'm really disappointed or really pleased.''
Scot Nikki Walker had stitches under an eye after being knocked out in a collision with Filo Tiatia.
''It was a nasty one. I think he was trying to speak Welsh after the game,'' quipped Johnson.

“I totally agree with Chris in London. Barry Davies has been the in form player for the Ospreys since he joined. What an inspired signing. Warren Gatland - you've missed a big trick by omitting him from your squad.”

“The one positive I would have to say for the Ospreys are the performances of Barry Davies. I think he's been excellent and I'm surprised he didn't get a call up to the Welsh squad for the autumn internationals.”
