THE date that the last bus will drive out of Swansea's Quadrant bus station has been announced.

The last day of operation before work starts to transform the station will be Saturday, June 13.

Commuters will be asked to use temporary bus stops dotted throughout the city centre for the following 15 months, before the new £10 million station opens for business in late 2011.

The new facility is promised to be a modern bus station with 20 bus bays, three coach stands, modern passenger facilities, easy access to the shops and Shopmobility facilities. Work is expected to start on building the new station in June.

The Assembly has provided significant funding for the project which is to receive additional funding from the Welsh European Funding Office. Six leading companies are currently bidding for the redevelopment contract and Swansea Council is expected to appoint the contractor next month.

“It is nice to see that public transport is being given a priority over car users. The new bus lanes coming into swansea from fabian way and also from places like the uni are encouraging public transport in a positive way. The new bus station will also create a happier and positive environment in the city centre, and its also nice to see the core of the city centre being redeveloped.”

“Thank you for putting my story on your website. Have you been given any Images and Plans of The New Quadrant Bus Interchange I would be very grateful if you could please put it on your website as I would dearly like to know what it would look like and also tie in with my project on the future of Swansea City Centre. Many thanks for your time and kindest help in the above matter. With Kind Regards, John William Fox.”

“I would like to say that the sooner that we see the last of the present Quadrant Bus Station the better I shall like it. It is very ugly in appearance and is very inviting to tramps and drug addicts. I am looking foreward to the New Quadrant Bus Interchange being built as it would give many visitors a very good impression of Swansea City Centre and they would keep on coming back to Swansea. This should have been done a very long time ago if the Council had got its act together and sorted out the finances for this forthcoming work. I am very sorry for the general public in Swansea because of the inconvenience during the redevelopment but it is good for the Swansea people when it is done. Once we get the new bus station up and running I do hope that it will be patrolled by the City Centre Rangers as to keep it clean and tidy, also keeping tramps and drug addicts out alltogether. I say roll on September 2010 when it will be completed.”

“@James. The St Mellons project looks sensible. The Aberavon to Llanelli LTR project looks farcical and has nothing to do with a city-wide tram system. How do you get a railway to run through the Marina? Where do you build a rail station? btw. It's Roget not Rogets and it is a list of synonyms. For a list of phrases, you need Brewer's or Google. What is a defintiion?”

    “@Paul, West Cross,

Nice to read you still can't get your Cranium out of 'Rogets' (or other similar sources) for your (self) implied worldly wise defintions!

There is a difference between planning and actual implementation of a major Capital Project, namely Political will, time and cost Differentials. Whether the Train/Tram 'Projects' at St. Mellons, Cardiff or here in Swansea, will take place is open to debate.”

“i think they need to do something about the buildings on the main shoping streets throughout the city, as well as the bus station as they are all in need of a facelife. Also, the trainstation, its a scary place to go, all i ever see is drunks, homelss people and chavs..where are the security? also i think some trees should be planted to block out the terraced housing on they way into swansea..it aint the nicest sight”

“Cliff is right. The bus station is in the wrong location. Steve you are wrong. Across the world you find bus and railway stations adjacent.”
